The big sedan Renault Talisman knows how to be comfortable, original, economical. However, very few people know about this: even experienced motorists rarely recall this model. Why is this happening – is it a car or stereotype problem? Or maybe it's a price problem? The answer is in this article.
The Renault Talisman sedan appeared in 2015 and took up the niche released after Renault Latitude's resignation: a large D-class "overgrown" sedan that is not only a family car, but also is already in the direction of the business class. From this point of view, as precursors, you can recall the elevator cars Renault Safrane and Renault 25.

Solid, restrained, with a sense of dignity. The Renault Talisman sedan behaves exactly the way you expect from it: "hurries in no hurry", offering a good balance of dynamics, comfort, handling. Turbo diesel "1.6 liter" on paper "looks weak for such a large car – and, it should be admitted, in extreme regimes" gas to the floor "can not boast of enviable dynamics: it rides exactly on the promised 130" horses ". But what kind of races can we talk about at the wheel of a business sedan? But the usual daily driving motor is good: it has an excellent traction in the "running" range of 2-3.5 thousand rpm (for the envy of other gasoline atmospherics 2-2.5 liters), and the quick "robot machine" EDC cleverly selects transmissions so that the engine always works in this zone. Although, of course, automatic transmission EDC on the track allows you to choose a high gear for economical driving, and with the maximum dynamic acceleration – allows you to spin the engine to 4-5 thousand rpm. In short, if you remove the modes of maximum acceleration, where there is a noticeable low engine power, then suddenly it turns out that for a "real life" a small turbodiesel is enough.
A similar picture with the chassis. For example, a significant difference in the operation of the suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers is noticeable only in the transition from "comfort" to "sports" or vice versa. It's a pity, but all the efforts of shock absorbers make the ride comfortable on large unevennesses reduce low-profile tires, which "collect" small irregularities on the road (here the basic 18-inch disks and buses are asking for thicker). Do not want to "comfortably swim" or "sporty shake"? Choose a standard mode of shock absorbers – and get an excellent balance of comfort, manageability, minimum rolls. Another example: the steering does not give a clear feedback about the rotation of the wheels. The steering wheel is almost always light, regardless of the angle of rotation. You can choose the "sport mode" – and then the steering wheel will become heavier, but this weight is generally "against the background", it does not change with the angle of the steering wheel. In a word, if you require supernormalities from Renault Talisman, then they are not. But as soon as you throw the game in the "sport" – the "Frenchman" will enjoy the balanced and integral and character: not rigidly on the suspension, but not rolls (rolls are minimal), the steering wheel is easy to ride for every day, while the reaction to his turn 19659006] Talisman manages to be within the class, not to be annoyed by any clearly marked accents To preserve its originality is an excellent option for an individualist. Modest turbodiesel 1.6 liters of 130 hp. in reality is remembered by a good thrust at medium revs, the box EDC is distinguished by fast and inconspicuous switching (only occasionally noticeable "peck" when changing gears 1-2), in standard modes Multi –  Sense the steering wheel pleases with ease. A good and balanced character on "every day."
The salon perfectly combines traditional solutions (solid wood insert) and Renault's techno-style (large vertical display). Front passengers just "kicks" on the road: here and background lighting, and 2-zone climate, and seat ventilation. Even a back massage is available! But suddenly, but comfortable seats disappointed with a small range of longitudinal adjustment: I sat up normally, but my colleague was 2 feet tall, I wanted to push the seat back – there was a seat.
Perhaps it was done on purpose? After all, in such sedans, the main person often sits on the second row. Behind and the truth is good: a wide doorway for a comfortable fit, a good backrest inclination (not littered, and not vertical) plus a huge stock of legroom. There are deflectors for ventilation, armrest, cup holders … And that's it! Strange, but positioning this car as a "sedan for the rear passengers" I would like to see the heating of the second row of seats and a separate zone of "climate." And this is not to mention the adjustment of the angle of the back seat, which already exists in this class and for this money from one of the competitors claiming the title of "carrier."
The salon is good both in general shape, and in the quality of materials, and in the finish in details. In the center console is the original unit Multi – Sense cup holders, niche shelves. In the armrest is a box for bottles. The front seats are pleasing with ventilation and massage.
The rear is very spacious and generally comfortable, but lacks a "compliment from the boss" or something … The luggage compartment is huge (564 l!), But the loading opening is small, which is typical for sedans with a sloping roof line.
Is there innovation?
The car Renault Talisman is built on the CMF-C / D platform, which is used in many Renault-Nissan cars and they have repeatedly become heroes of publications: Renault Megane and Koleos, Nissan X-Trail and Qashqai. But the nearest relative of the Renault Talisman sedan is the Renault Espace minivan crossover (I strongly advise you to read it), as a result it is the most innovative and high-tech cars from Renault on this platform. The carrier body, the independent McPherson suspension in the front, the semi-independent on the basis of the H-shaped beam from the rear, the 1.6L diesel with direct injection of fuel and one turbine, the robotic automatic transmission EDC (DSG type) – everything seems to be customary. But do not rush to conclusions: Renault Talisman received the steering system of the rear wheels 4 Control and electronically controlled dampers. In the first case, the rear wheels can be rotated oppositely to the front wheels to reduce the diameter of the turn (at low speed), or turn one side with the front wheels to improve stability during rebuilding (at high speed). And it is felt: the car actually turns on a relatively small patch and is very stable at high speed, although the "yurkosti" Megane GT is not here. Electronically-controlled shock absorbers clearly change the nature of the suspension (harder / softer) and are included in the complex multi-Sense ride setup.
Car body, turbo diesel with direct fuel injection, robotic automatic transmission EDC (type  DSG ) – everything is familiar. But Renault Talisman is able to surprise. For example, there is a 4 Control system for steer the rear wheels. Or electronically controlled dampers, which are "tied" to one of the driving profiles (comfort, sport, eco, standard, individual) of the proprietary system Multi – Sense . The latter also affects the behavior of the motor, the operation of the automatic transmission, the effort on the steering wheel. Selecting the driving mode – using a separate button or through your own menu on the central display.
In addition, Renault Talisman pleases with a lot of brand-name developments. Front – completely LED lights, a radar sensor to measure the distance to the vehicle ahead, a camera at the top of the windshield to control the ranks and automatic switching of headlights (near / far). In the cabin – branded system R-Link 2 with 8.7-inch display: navigation, audio, phone connection, rear-view camera, graphical tips parktronic. I once again praise the R-Link 2 system, calling it one of the best on the market. First, you can customize the main pages at your own discretion by selecting widget icons of all the necessary functions – like in a smartphone or tablet. Secondly, the R-Link 2 system is interconnected with other functions: when the automatic parking system is activated (disassembled with the Kadjar example), you can select the type of parking required, when you access the "climate" page, you can control the flow speed, blowing direction, etc. in detail. Thirdly, you can create user profiles (all kinds of favorite settings) and then prepare the car "for yourself" with just one touch.
Also note the devices: for the top-of-the-new "fresh" models Renault uses a dashboard based on color 7-inch A new display plus a pair of pointers. This display allows you to choose one of the styles of the speedometer and tachometer display (centered), and you can change the color of the decoration of the instruments separately for the general color of the interior lighting. But what style of devices do not choose – there always remain four small corner windows: the position of the automatic transmission lever, the "tree", growing with economical driving, the selected Multi-Sense mode, tire pressure, radio settings, navigation tips. In the lower part of the "drawn" speedometer – the data of the on-board computer (fuel consumption, power reserve), in the center – the indicators of the ranks control system and the distance to the car ahead. Plus there is a traveling projection display that gives similar information: speed, cruise included, row control, navigation. A complicated description, yes? But amazingly easy, simple, convenient in reality. Appliances and R-Link 2 – "credit"!
The system R – Link 2 and the LCD dashboard at first seem like toys: why is it in a solid business sedan? But the longer they are used, the better the impression: the well-thought-out control logic, the mass of functions, the beautiful picture.
Among other features of the car I will mention fully LED lights with automatic "near / far" switching, row control, projection display, change background lighting interior, automatic parking system.
Prices and competitors
With the market position of the Renault Talisman everything is simple: always a 1.6-liter turbodiesel (130 hp or 160 hp), front drive, automatic transmission EDC, equipment Intense. The latter is made in the style of "all-inclusive": front and side airbags, curtain airbags, 2-zone "climate", LED lights, Renault Multi-Sense (change driving style and interior lighting), 7-inch instrument panel display, rear camera type, control of blind areas of the side mirrors, multimedia system R-Link 2, front seats with massage and ventilation, leather upholstery, 18-inch wheels. But it is difficult to speak about exact prices, since only one batch of cars was delivered to Ukraine, which were evaluated according to their configuration, taking into account additional options. In fact, it was a one-off delivery in order to show the possibilities of the "French" to Ukrainian motorists. At the time of preparation of this material, only one Renault Talisman was left on sale, for which the price is formed on an individual basis. About possible further deliveries and sales has not yet been reported. For example, we focus on the test car.
This is a 130-strong version plus many interesting options: distance control function, emergency braking system, automatic parking assistance (8 thousand UAH), 4 Control system for steering the rear wheels (35 thousand UAH), electronically controlled shock absorbers (15 thousand UAH), 19-inch alloy wheels (16 thousand UAH.). The final price of the test car is about 950 thousand UAH. or almost $ 36 thousand
In the format of Renault Talisman competitors mass. "Japanese" are represented very strongly in the form of the newest generation Toyota Camry (I will soon tell) and Mazda 6 (new is about to come to Ukraine): both cars rely on proven solutions – atmospheric gasoline engines, the usual automatic transmission. "Europeans" are also strong: exemplary and high-tech VW Passat plus its eternal rival Ford Mondeo, which is inferior to the power of the name, but attracts by the price. But there are also indirect rival competitors for individual buyers: Opel Insignia, VW Arteon, the new Peugeot 508, which they promise to bring before the end of the year …
There are many competitors, as well as problems Renault Talisman in the fight against them. Where are the available initial versions? Where are the usual gasoline atmospheric engines? Where is the popularity of the model, when is the "name on hearing"? But if you leave stereotypes, then to me, as a journalist, Renault Talisman is remembered by one of the most interesting, unique, "advanced" cars in its class. The problem is that while an ordinary customer who just needs a "big sedan" will remember Renault Talisman – it will already buy some of the competitors.
Cost of maintenance  A small turbodiesel paired with a preselektivnym modern "robot" -AKPP potentially mean a miserable fuel consumption, right? Unfortunately, but "no" in the case of urban driving on the Renault Talisman: with a promise of less than 5 liters per 100 km in reality, I obtained almost 1.5 times more – about 7-7.5 liters per 100 km, no traffic jams and smooth driving. In ordinary everyday life, fuel consumption fluctuated at the level of 9 liters per 100 km, and with a large number of traffic jams and / or a dynamic style of driving – exceeded 10 liters per 100 kilometers. It seems that every traffic light and every start required from a small motor a fair amount of effort to disperse a big sedan – that's an unpleasant expense in the city. After all, when driving along the road with an established speed and smooth acceleration overtaking, the situation looked much better: at 80-90 km / h – about 4 liters per 100 km, at 110-120 km / h – 5.5-6 liters per 100 km
The total warranty on the car is three years or 100 thousand km, whichever comes first. The frequency of maintenance is 20 thousand km or once a year. The cost of simple maintenance (20/40/60 thousand km) is 3.7-4.9 thousand UAH, extended maintenance on a run of 80/100 thousand km will cost 6.8-7.8 thousand UAH.  The prices for the car and TO are indicated as of the end of July, without taking into account the additional discounts and shares that apply when buying a car or servicing it.
As a result
We hardly see the Renault Talisman sedan often on Ukrainian roads: in this class, other brands and models are honored, which are often sold for less money. Very sorry. Because the Renault Talisman for testing proves to be a cool option for the head of the family and / or middle managers, who need to ride a large sedan, while you want to stand out in the flow, but do not want to bring to extremes in the form of little-known automotive brands. The Renault Talisman sedan is an excellent example of what the "French" can create: a well-trained and high-class car.
